Bowman Ales takes over the brewing of Suthwyk Ales

Since the sad demise of Oakleaf Brewery, Bowman Ales has taken over the brewing of the rather splendid Suthwyk Ales. Over the coming months we will be brewing their full range of beers and they have just taken delivery of the first brew of Skew Sunshine Ale. We’ve just tried it and it’s wonderful! There’s a brew of Liberation on the way and this will soon be followed by Old Dick, Land of Hop and Glory and Palmerston’s Folly. The beers are all brewed using barley grown on their own farm, which adds something very special to a truly local beer.

A subtle infusion of Elder Flowers defines this beer. Unlike some other brews of this type, there is no heavy floral scent, just the tiniest hint of spring bloom. Loads of character and a lovely bitter finish.

The Cornish Pilot Gig Crew - Great River Race on the Thames

The Cornish Pilot Gig Crew of HMS Collingwood took part in this year’s Great River Race on the Thames, a gruelling 21.6 mile rowing marathon from London Docklands to Richmond, Surrey.

In keeping with the finest tradition of this West Country sport, Bowman Ales as the crew’s local brewer sponsored the naval crew in its endeavour, by slaking the thirst of the sailors with a keg of
Swift One’ after the race!

Meon Valley Airgun Club’s Bowman Classic Open Competition – 7 June 2015

Sponsored by Bowman Ales of Droxford, the Bowman Classic Open has become a regular and much-anticipated event amongst on the air rifle competition scene, and this year proved no exception with nearly 40 shooters competing, some from as far afield as Buckinghamshire. Throw in some beautiful sunny weather, and the splendid woodland setting of Hen Woods (located not far from East Meon) where the event is held, and you can start to appreciate why the Bowman Classic this year was so popular.

The Bowman Classic is unique in that the competition comprises 3 separate disciplines – a traditional Hunter Field Target course, a “Gamble” course (with points being awarded on a sliding scale depending on whether a shot is taken from the prone, kneeling or standing position), and a pistol course. Trophies were awarded for first, second, and third places, with the winner of each category also receiving a very welcome pack of Bowman’s “Swift One” ale.

At the end of the day, points from each of the 3 categories were added together to give an overall winner, and this year it was Ali James, vice-chairman of Meon Valley Airgun Club, who took the honours and received a beautiful engraved glass tankard – which was immediately filled with some of Bowman’s product for the winner to toast his success. (see picture attached to this email)

Meon Valley Airgun Club would like to thank Bowman Ales for their continued support and sponsorship of what is one of the “flagship events” in the club’s calendar.

Bowman Ales produce 'Roebuck Bitter'

After the recent refit of this old Victorian inn, uniquely located on the cusp of the popular Meon Valley Woodland and conservation area, both locals and visitors are delighted the Roebuck Inn has swung open its doors again.
The Roebuck is certainly an ‘Inn’ in the true sense of the word. A fabulous venue, in a stunning location, offers sanctuary to a broad spectrum of guests with a choice of comfortable and relaxed seating areas and beautiful gardens.
The Roebuck is family friendly with an open door policy to muddy boots and dogs; everyone is welcome to enjoy this cosy den in the middle of the woods.
Bowman Ales brewery is now delighted to announce their exclusive Roebuck Bitter to grace the bar. A malty, light chestnut coloured brown beer (4%ABV) – it will beautifully complement the Roebuck Inn’s hearty menu of British greats.

Once again, INCA Design are very proud to support Bowman Ales with the design of the bottle labels for yet another distinguished brew.

RFA Wave Knight - New F76 RAS Refresher Beer

Bowman Ales are yet again honoured to announce that one of their fine ales is now gracing more galleys and mess decks of our Royal Navy - this time the Royal Fleet Auxiliary's tankers.
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary delivers worldwide logistical and operational support for the wide range of tasks our Royal Navy undertakes including war-fighting, counter-piracy, counter-narcotics operations, humanitarian and disaster relief.
The UK has a responsibility to its citizens and its allies to endeavour to safeguard the high seas. This is why our Royal Navy protects home and international waters; ensuring the global trade that Britain and the world depend on, can proceed without a hitch.

Our ships and submarines are complex pieces of kit, packed with hard-working officers, ratings and marines - all of whom need some time alongside once in a while.
Among other supplies, our Royal Fleet Auxiliary tankers replenish the operational ships at sea with F76 NATO grade fuel.

So welcome on board… Bowman Ales hope that our F76 RAS Refresher will reward our brave men & women of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary with their own Replenishment At Sea, refuelling with the refreshing taste of a proper British ale!

Once again, INCA Design are very proud to support Bowman Ales with the design of the bottle labels for yet another distinguished brew.

Michelin chef Tom Sellers re-opens the historic Lickfold Inn - former pub of DJ Chris Evans

Campaigners fought for three years to save this historic village Inn after it became virtually derelict after being closed by the owner, celebrity broadcaster Chris Evans who bought the pub in 2007.
Sadly he closed it in 2010 saying the pub was no longer viable and it was boarded up and allowed to fall into disrepair.
Villagers, fearing it would become a private house, launched their ‘Save The Lickfold’ campaign and they were rewarded in May this year when they heard it had been bought by new owners and would remain a public house.
We raise our glasses to Tom Sellers, a Michelin-starred chef, and his team who have gone to amazing efforts over six months to restore Surrey's Lickfold Inn, which he best describes as a modern, independent pub with traditional values.
Tom grew up in pubs. With fond memories of the happy atmosphere of a favourite local he wanted to bring back The Lickfold with a big impact – introducing some of his own cooking style but still respecting the legacy of a real, proper pub.
The ground floor is a traditional pub, serving craft and local beers such as Bowman Ales, whilst the upstairs dining room offers a modern British menu incorporating ingredients from the bounty of local specialist suppliers.
Bowman Ales are delighted to supply their award-winning ales to the Lickfold, which has been a pub for more than a century, and the plot on which it sits is mentioned in historical literature dating from 1314.

It has taken two long years but a pub which was almost lost for good is about to reopen…

A huge effort has been made to save the 140-year-old Fox & Hounds in Denmead from being bulldozed by developers to make way for luxury homes.
Denmead villagers fought hard and following years of campaigning and fundraising, a community Co-operative now officially owns the Fox & Hounds pub after it closed in 2012.
It was not just financial backing, months of back-breaking work by villagers has gone into ripping the insides out and completely revamping the run-down grounds in a bid to keep the refurbishment costs down.
This historic pub is now completely refitted & refurnished creating a warm & welcoming country pub atmosphere; just the way it should be!
We embrace their efforts keeping our local country pubs alive and thriving!
So this holiday season, take the time to relax and sample their fresh décor & friendly hospitality and perhaps a few pints of Bowman Ales' fine award winning real ales too!

Yet another local pub re-vamped & re-opened in time for the festive season…

The Roebuck Inn, an old Victorian Inn uniquely located on the cusp of the popular Meon Valley woodland and conservation area near Wickham, has recently re-opened their doors.
An Inn in the true sense of the word, this fabulous fully re-furbished Hampshire pub offers guests a hearty menu of British greats, comfortable and relaxed seating areas, beautiful gardens and a friendly service.
With Bowman Ales on tap you will never want to leave.

HMS Bulwark New Beers

Bowman Ales are honoured to announce that two of their fine ales are now gracing the galleys and mess decks of HMS Bulwark, the Royal Naval flagship.
Having taken part in the D-Day celebrations in Portsmouth, Bulwark sailed to Devonport where the two beers, aptly named “Amphib Ale” and “Bulwark Bitter” were loaded before the ships deployment to the Mediteranean. HMS Bulwark is one of the United Kingdom's two newest amphibious transport docks, designed to put Royal Marines ashore by air and by sea in quick response to crises and world events.
Even though she has a busy schedule, we at Bowman Ales hope that the officers, ratings and Marines will have some time off duty to relax with a pint of proper British beer!
INCA Design was very proud to support Bowman Ales with the design of the bottle labels for these distinguished brewed beverages.
